The Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State, Professor Leo Daniel, on behalf of the Management, Staff and students of the University has congratulated the Acting Director, Directorate of Physical Planning of the University, Arc. Abimbola Oke on his induction as a Fellow of the prestigious Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA).
In his goodwill message to the Acting Director of Physical Planning of the Institution, the Vice Chancellor described the Fellowship induction of Arc. Abimbola Oke as well deserved considering his dedication to professional practice within and outside the University as well as his immense contributions to the growth of the profession in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria and beyond.
The University Don while congratulating the Fellow further expressed optimism that the induction of the Institution’s Director of Physical Planning will improve his resourcefulness to the profession, the Directorate of Physical Planning and generally impact the quality of service delivery in the University and beyond.
To his credit, Arc. Abimbola Oke attended the University of Jos, where he studied Architecture and bagged a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) and Masters of Science (M.Sc.) degrees in Architecture in 1992 and 1995 respectively.
Additionally, he holds another Masters of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Construction Management and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Architecture from the University of Uyo. He has several academic publications to his credit.
Arc. Abimbola Oke has served as a two term Secretary of the Nigerian Institute of Architects Akwa Ibom State Chapter (2007–2012 ) and a two term Chairman of the same Chapter (2016 – 2020).
The newly inducted Fellow earlier joined the services of the University of Uyo as an academic staff in July 2000 and later joined the services of Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi(FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State as Acting Director of Physical Planning in 2023. He has been actively involved in the design and construction industry as well as training of students of Architecture for about Thirty (30) years
The Induction Ceremony is part of the activities at the ongoing 65th Annual General Meeting, Conference and Exhibition of the Professional Body with the theme: “Architectural Excellence for Economic Resilience” holding at the State House Conference Centre, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The Special Guest of Honour at the event is the Vice President of Nigeria, His Excellency Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON who equally served as the Keynote Speaker.
The event which started on Monday 24th November is expected to end on Saturday, 29th November 2025 with a Gala Dinner, Awards, presentation of the Conference Communique, election of the new National leadership & Inauguration of the 31st President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects/ Swearing in of elected officers for the 2025 – 2027.
