Whistle-Blowing Policy
Purpose
The Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA) is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards in all aspects of its operations. This Whistle-Blowing Policy is designed to provide a framework for employees, students, and other stakeholders to report concerns about unethical behaviour, illegal activities, or other serious wrongdoing within the university.
Scope
This policy applies to all employees, students, contractors, and third-party vendors who have a business relationship with FUTIA.
Definitions
Whistle-Blower: An individual who reports a concern about unethical behaviour, illegal activities, or other serious wrongdoing within the university.
Protected Disclosure: A report made in good faith by a whistle-blower about a concern that falls within the scope of this policy.
Reporting Procedures
Anonymous Reporting: Reports can be made anonymously through a designated online platform or by using a dedicated email address.
Non-Anonymous Reporting: Reports can be made directly to the designated Whistle-Blowing Committee or to a supervisor, dean, or other senior officer.
Protected Disclosures
The following types of concerns are considered protected disclosures:
Financial malpractice or fraud
Corruption or bribery
Unethical behaviour or misconduct
Illegal activities or criminal conduct
Health and safety risks
Environmental hazards
Violation of university policies or regulations
Harassment or discrimination
Protection of Whistle-Blowers
Confidentiality: All reports will be treated with confidentiality to the extent possible.
Anonymity: The identity of anonymous whistle-blowers will be protected.
No Retaliation: Whistle-blowers will not be subject to retaliation or retribution.
Investigation and Response
Designated Committee: A Whistle-Blowing Committee will investigate all reports.
Timely Response: The committee will respond to the whistle-blower within a reasonable timeframe.
Appropriate Action: The university will take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation.
Review and Revision
This policy will be reviewed and revised as necessary.
Effective Date
This policy is effective as of April, 22, 2024.

By implementing this policy, FUTIA demonstrates its commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct.
