The Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA) has added more equipment to the workshop meant for School of Engineering and Engineering Technology as a strategic academic planning initiative to boast the resourcefulness of the Engineering Programmes in the Institution.





Speaking on Monday, 28th July 2025 at the Takeoff Campus of the University during the brief unveiling of the Engineering equipment at the Studio Workshop for the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel said the additional infrastructure provided by the Institution for the School of Engineering is aimed at boasting the practical component of the Engineering Programmes especially for year two students offering Engineering Courses.
The Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Registrar, Offiongita Nkang Mrs, congratulated the Acting Head of Department, Mechanical Engineering, Dr Bassey B. Okon, the students of the Department and the entire School of Engineering for the additional practical tools added to boast their learning.
The Vice Chancellor used the occasion to particularly admonish Engineering students and all the students in the institution to be more focus on their academics as well as put the tools acquired and other resources to effective use to boast their overall academic outcomes.
Prof. Daniel who is a Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics equally admonished the Lecturers, Technologists and students to adhere to best industrial safety protocols and workshop rules in the application of the tools for learning and research.
In his remarks at the event, the Acting Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Coordinator of Students Industrial Workshop Experience Scheme (SIWES) in the University, Dr Bassey Okon expressed appreciation to the Management of the University for the prompt approval and support to equip the Workshop.
The SIWES Coordinator disclosed that Engineering Programmes are made up of 70 Percent Practical and 30 Percent Theories for the 200 Level students that are offering the Workshop Practical across the Engineering Programmes.
Dr Okon added that with the acquisition of the Workshop Tools and equipment the Engineering Students of the University especially those in Year Two are set to undertake their compulsory SIWES Programme.
