Dr. Mfoniso U. Aka is a holder of a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree in Physics, 2008, Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Physics (Applied Geophysics), 2014, both obtained from the University of Uyo, Uyo. Doctor of Philosophy in Physics & Astronomy (Solid Earth Geophysics), 2018, University of Nigeria, Nsukka UNN, with all the rights, privileges, and immunities. He is a Member of the following professional bodies: Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), and National Association of Atmospheric and Solid Earth Geophysics (NAASEG). Dr Aka has worked for over ten (10) years as an experienced lecturer and researcher. He is a senate member; of the committee on examination misconduct, and Quality Assurance FUTIA. He is an excellent researcher his publications and conference papers can be viewed on Research Gate, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Scopus. He is an examiner with the National Open University of Nigeria, a Reviewer, and an Editor in Science learned Journals. Therefore, he is the current, Acting Director, of the Directorate of General Studies. Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

In line with National University Commission (NUC) – Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standard (CCMAS) guidelines on the General Studies (GST) program. FUTIA Directorate of General Studies offers courses that include:  Communication in English, Nigerian People and Culture, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Philosophy, Logic and Human Existence, Peace and Conflict Resolution, and FUTIA- CCMAS: Use of Library and E-Library Technology. All students admitted into the university must therefore pass all the General Studies (GST) courses before they can graduate. The GST courses are designed to accomplish the following strategic goals. 

  1. To coordinate the teaching of all General Studies (GST) courses
  2. To empower FUTIA students with the three basic Entrepreneurial Skills such as:
  • Soft Skills – Self-confidence, self-motivation, creativity, communication leadership, responsibility, networking, teamwork, positive thinking, idea generation, opportunities identification, and negotiation. Problem-solving
  • Hard Skills: Planning, presentation, ICT, feasibility analysis, business plan writing, business analysis, marketing and sales
  • Vocational Skills: Fashion designing (tailoring, shoemaking, hair styling, makeup artist, event planning, arts and crafts, photography, video editing, catering, baking, and pastry cosmetics
  1. To train students to develop business ideas and entrepreneurial skills and thus be self- employed after graduation
  2. To prepare FUTIA students for a post-university life with opportunities for job competencies and entrepreneurial skills

STRATEGIC GOALS

  1.        To offer university students a prospect underpinning and proficiency in communication and         listening skills.
  2.      To enable students to comprehend and utilize the library and e-library technology
  3.     To assist students in developing, appreciating, and expanding their awareness of their social         and cultural values
  4.      To help the student develop adequate competence in a second language competency as a           tool for their present studies and future employment
  5.       To introduce students to extensive areas of Arts and humanities and create awareness of the          service of science and engineering technology as it relates to societal development.

ENTREPRENEURIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT

The Entrepreneurial Department serves as an Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) charge as a direct response to the dearth of available professional business development and support services to small and growing businesses. It’s also about creating jobs, contributing to the economy, and innovating. Entrepreneurship Studies teaches students how to think like an entrepreneurs, gives them practical skills they can use in real-world situations, helps develop leadership skills they need as future leaders, and provides an opportunity for them to identify problems they can solve by building solutions.
