The maiden edition of the Vice Chancellor’s Cup of Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA) has kicked off.
The Football Championship which started on Monday, 20th May, 2024, took place at the Sports Ground of the University Takeoff Campus.
Declaring it open, the Vice Chancellor of FUTIA, Professor Leo Daniel said the Championship will be annually hosted and sponsored by his office as part of the University’s commitment to boosting academic excellence and extracurricular activities on campus through physical, social, kinetic, mental fitness and health infrastructure needed by students and staff for accelerated teaching and learning outcomes.
He expressed appreciation on behalf of the Management to the University Community, the Sports Committee and stakeholders for the huge turnout at the Football Fiesta.
The Opening Ceremony was played between the host FUTIA FOOTBALL TEAM and the NNS JUBILEE SOCCER ACADEMY which ended goalless at FULL-TIME of the fiercely competitive game.
The event was equally attended by other Management Team of the University including the Registrar, Offiongita E. Nkang(Mrs), University Bursar, Dr Mbobo Erasmus Mbobo, University Librarian – Prof. Philip Akor, as well as other Staff, Students, Stakeholders, Security Agencies, the host communities, leadership of Sports Writers Association, Akwa Ibom State Chapter led by its Chairman, Emmanuel Akpan and other Sports enthusiasts within and outside the State.
