The Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Prof. Leo Daniel has joined other critical stakeholders in the education sector to felicitate the Governing Council, Management, Staff and Students of University of Calabar; one of the Second Generation Universities in Nigeria on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary and 37th Convocation Ceremonies of the Institution held today.
The Vice Chancellor in his Goodwill Message presented at the Ceremony on behalf of the Governing Council, Management Team, Staff and Students of Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA) congratulated the Unical Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi and the entire University of Calabar Community on the academic milestone which he said is a proof of dedication and hard work of the staff and students of the University.
“In 50 years, the University of Calabar has produced thousands of proud Alumni who have led the charge of development at the national, continental and global stage. The University has positioned and distinguished itself exceptionally in many disciplines especially in Medical Sciences and Law among others, thus inspiring very impactful synergy with other institutions”, the FUTIA VC affirmed.
Speaking further, the Professor of Aeronautics and Aeronautics said, “UNICAL stands as a fountain of knowledge, innovation, and cultural heritage; nurturing leaders, advancing scholarship and fostering a global community committed to academic excellence, quality leadership and service to humanity”.
The FUTIA VC added that the motto of UNICAL, “Knowledge for Service”, aligns perfectly with one of the major aims of establishing tertiary institutions by governments stressing that UNICAL is one of the second-generation Universities established in 1975 though, its impacts are greater and far-reaching than its age.
Prof. Daniel disclosed that the Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), is a specialized Institution with the motto, “Innovation Drives Transformation”. He expressed the commitment of the Institution to explore mutually beneficial collaborations with UNICAL to achieve collective mandate in research, manpower training, technological innovations; raising the quality of life and development within host communities, catchment areas and the nation.
Prof. Daniel congratulated UNICAL at 50 and heartily felicitate with the Awardees and Honorees on the occasion of the 37th Convocation Ceremony. He charged them to reflect on the journey that brought them to this momentous occasion. He inspired them to also take pride in the contributions they will make to humanity in their future endeavours.
A total of Fourteen Thousand Two Hundred and Twenty Six (14,226) Graduates were conferred with various Bachelor Degrees, Diplomas, Post Graduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctors of Philosophy in different Fields of a Single (Non Combined) Convocation Ceremony which the Unical VC disclosed is the highest in the history of the University.
The Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the FUTIA Governing Council, Rt. Hon. Dr Emaeyak Ukpong was among the eminent dignitaries in attendance.
